In this two hour webinar, we will provide a simple process and practical techniques for business analysis and requirements elicitation related to business intelligence and data warehousing projects.

The definition of the business requirements for analytical processing / decision support systems require different techniques than the process and data modeling used for transactional processing systems. For a BI project, Business Analysts and Project Managers need to identify the business facts, measures and dimensions needed for the data warehouse.

Through an easy-to-understand and easy-to-apply process that analyzes and defines the business objectives, usage scenarios, questions and queries, the analyst is able to define and build a conceptual multi-dimension model that will form the basis of the business requirements for the data warehouse and business intelligence system requirements.

Learning Objectives:
  • The basic Data Warehouse best practices and principles from Bill Inmon and Ralph Kimball.
  • How to facilitate a Requirements Discovery Session using data warehousing best practices such as Dimensional Modeling and Usage Scenarios.
  • How to prepare a Business Requirements Document for a Business Intelligence project
  • How to elicit the business usage scenarios, questions and queries related to the subject areas of the data warehouse or data mart.
  • How to identify and define (sufficiently for business requirements) the facts and measures, and dimensions in the multi-dimensional data model.
